Feeding guests well is very important at The Old Excise House, placing great emphasis on fresh, local and seasonal produce, wherever possible. Islay has a wealth of natural resources and dedicated producers, providing the highest quality of ingredients, these are used to make your breakfast an enjoyable experience. Home Baking is a speciality and The Old Excise House have been awarded a Scottish homebaking award.
Breakfast is taken in the guests breakfast/sitting room on the first floor, looking out across the sea towards Ireland. It is served between 8.00am and 9.00am (earlier by arrangement).
Begin with a choice of fresh juice, cereals, homemade granola, compote, yoghurt, fruits, porridge and baking of the day. Followed by a selection of cooked breakfast items, including island eggs, Campbeltown smokehouse smoked salmon, Loch Fyne kippers, Stornoway black pudding and homemade tattie scones.
Ron and Emma are happy to give advice on restaurants and cafes, making reservations for you if requested.
If booked in advance and subject to availability, a seafood platter from a local fisherman can be ordered for you. This can be enjoyed in the guest breakfast room and you are welcome to bring in your own wine. Please ask for details.
Special diets can be catered for on request, please mention at time of booking. Gluten, wheat and dairy free cereals and bread always available in addition to gluten and dairy free home baking. Vegan, vegetarian and diabetic options also provided.
